#Enough! Afghan Street Kids want a good education! 7th October, 2015 By Dr Hakim On the 2nd of October, 2015, about 60 Afghan street kids told their 12 Afghan Peace Volunteer teachers that they loved them! Afghan schools celebrated Teacher’s Day three days later, but it was Friday, and the International day of Nonviolence too, so at the Borderfree Nonviolence Centre, the volunteer teachers and their street kid students took the opportunity to have fun, to enjoy each other’s company, and to learn again that they’ve had #Enough! of the same, bad education. Sakina, about 10 years old, stood up confidently, read a poem and said, “Malalai Yousafzai shared that ‘if there’s no war for 8 days, we can have a good education for 12 years’. Sakina was not only quoting a Nobel Laureate, or not only speaking for herself. She was speaking for the children of the world!   […]

“War can only be abolished, cannot be humanized.” Dr Gino Strada, co-founder of Emergency & winner of the Right Livelihood Award. Dr Gino Strada, Photo from Pinterest   Transcripts as printed from Democracy Now and Truth Out : While many Americans believe that the war in Afghanistan is winding down, peace activists and medical aid workers tell a different story. “That really shows how mainstream media has failed to tell the truth to the world,” says Dr. Hakim, a medical doctor who has provided humanitarian relief in Afghanistan for the last decade. “The war is going on. It is deteriorating. Both the International Red Cross and the United Nations have reported an increase in civilian deaths over the past few years. So it is getting worse. It is definitely not scaling down. And I think Americans need to know that their taxpayer money is going to a war that […]

After 14 long years of assuming that the war in Afghanistan is necessary, each day for the *next five short days, we offer you five tiny video snippets which invite you to see Afghans differently. To the Afghan Peace Volunteers in Kabul, acquiring new insights is essential, if we are all to survive the growing, multidirectional violence, from the Taliban on the ground or from U.S./NATO airstrikes like the fatal airstrike on the MSF ( Doctors Without Borders ) Hospital in Kunduz. Please share these video clips with your friends. Tell them not to fear what they’ll see and hear. It is our hope that the images and sounds will humanize all of us, and help us to feel again. *from the 3rd till the 7th of October, the ‘anniversary’ of the beginning of the U.S./NATO military presence in Afghanistan.   3rd October 2015   4th October 2015 #Enough! 100 Afghan Street Kids shared a meal with 100 Afghan labourers to launch #Enough! on 21st Sept, the International Day of Peace   #Enough! was launched at a celebratory event in Kabul, Afghanistan, on the 21st of September 2015, the International Day of Peace. It was appropriate that an effort to abolish war was launched from one of the global centres of war. At one point in the Afghan war, 50 countries were involved in the U.S./NATO coalition. After 14 years, the war is still ongoing and turning worse. At the launch event in Kabul, the Afghan Peace Volunteers worked with 100 Borderfree Afghan Street Kids to cook and serve a meal to 100 Afghan labourers. This demonstrated a divestment of our energies and money away from war-making to meeting the basic needs of fellow human beings. Following the launch, the Afghan Peace Volunteers are continuing their long-term work of […]
